Бывшее Преображенское кладбище. Кладбище основано в 1871 г. и названо Преображенским по находившейся здесь церкви Преображения Господня. Чуть позже была открыта вторая часть кладбища, иноверческая, которая в итоге стала Преображенским еврейским кладбищем (см. соответствующую статью). В советское время Преображенское (православное) кладбище было названо кладбищем Памяти жертв 9-го января, по расположенным здесь массовым захоронениям жертв Кровавого воскресенья.

Memorial Cemetery to the Victims of 9th January

Former Preobrazhenskoye Cemetery. The cemetery was founded in 1871 and named Preobrazhenskoye ('Transfiguration') Cemetery after the Сhurch of the Transfiguration of Christ that was located here. Several years later, the second part of the cemetery was opened for non-orthodox burials. It later became the Preobrazhenskoye Jewish cemetery (see the corresponding entry). In Soviet times the Preobrazhenskoye (Orthodox) Cemetery was renamed Memorial Cemetery to the Victims of 9th January, in recognition of the mass grave here for those who died on "Bloody Sunday"", the workers protest that sparked the 1905 Revolution."

As per the St. Petersburg Toponymy Commission guidelines, transliteration of the cemetery names shall be provided alongside the translation on city signs, signs placed at transportation infrastructure objects, etc.
